Hyundai Accent is a subcompact car produced by Hyundai, another vehicle manufacturer powerhouse in Asia. Hyundai Accent is also known as Hyundai Verna as it is marketed in the South Korea as Verna but in the United States as Accent. It was first produced in Ulsan, South Korea, with the first generation produced from 1995-1999. During 2000-2005, the second generation of Hyundai Acccent was produced. Third generation was then produced from the year 2005 till present. Throughout the years, changes and modification has been done to improve the capability of the Accent and at the same time to make it able to compete with other models.
Major improvement has been done with the latest model of Accent. Hyundai improve Accent’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) fuel economy for 2010 without adding thousands of dollars in its price tag like a hybrid does. Puzzles surround other carmakers, but for Hyundai, the answer is simple. The introduction of the high mileage “Blue” edition and smart engineering to all Accent models is the trick. With “Blue”, Accent’s fuel efficiency is improved by up to nine percent and reaching as high as 36 miles per gallon (MPG) on the highway. This number is far better than Honda Fir and Nissan Versa.
The Accent is powered by a 1.6 liter DOHC four cylinder engine that features four valves per cylinder, giving 16 valves in total plus Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT). Combination of DOHC and CVVT gives the engine a very broad powerbrand, added with high fuel efficiency and low emissions. With CVVT system, Accent is capable of giving performance up to 110 horsepower, which is more horsepower than Toyota Yaris and Chervolet Aveo. Apart from that, fuel economy is equally impressive, achieving 36 mpg regardless of transmission choice. If you choose for a manual transmission, the Accent Blue’s EPA mileage is 27 mpg for city and 36 mpg for highway. Besides of the added performace it provides, CVVT also helps the engine operate more cleanly. Due to this, the Accent is ceritfied as Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV).
The main reasons for Accent to be class above others in the competition are the interior space and unexpected features. Accent has more total interior volume than either Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic, although both cars are priced thousands more than Accent. Unexpected features featured in Hyundai Accent include B&M Racing sport shifter and XM Satellite Radio. In case you did not know, B&M has been at the forefront of automotive transmission aftermarket, therefore, having their products in your car will increase your confident towards the car.
For safety purpose, Hyundai has outfitted the Accent with state of the art standard safety technologies highlighted by six airbags, including dual front airbags, fron seat-mounted side impact airbags and roof mounted side curtain airbags covering both rows of seating. This combination of airbags will help in protecting the head and body during side impacts and further reducing fatalities. According to Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), combination of airbags available in Hyundai Accent can reduce fatalities by more than 45 percent.
